A note from us
Why the Coast
California is a special place to both of us. San Francisco is our home, but the California coast is where we get away on weekends, and where we find our peace. The natural beauty of this coastline is unlike anywhere else in the world to us: the sound of the ocean, sunsets over the bluffs, long walks in the redwoods. We can't think of a better place to invite our friends and family to celebrate the beginning of our lives together.
The Sea Ranch means something to us in particular. It was our first weekend getaway together, and it's a place built around one idea: living lightly on the land. Everything here is meant to sit inside the coastal landscape rather than on top of it. It's a place where you can feel one with nature, and we hope you find it as special as we do.
The venue
The Sea Ranch Lodge
The Lodge sits on the bluff at the center of The Sea Ranch: seventeen rooms, a dining room and glass-walled solarium, a fireside lounge, and the Pacific past every window. We've reserved all of it for the weekend, so for three days the property is ours.
Around it is the community that gives the place its name. The Sea Ranch was laid out in the 1960s along ten miles of coastline, with open meadows, cypress hedgerows, and weathered-timber houses designed to disappear into the hillside. It's still one of the most admired pieces of environmental architecture in the country, and it looks its best in November light.

Nothing scheduled. Breakfast is on your own, at the Lodge or in Gualala. Then join us for a morning outdoors before the drive home.

A hike or a paddle
A walk along the bluff trail, or a kayak on the Gualala River for anyone keen. Black Point Beach and the Sea Ranch Chapel are close by if you'd rather go on your own. Sunday Mass details are under Getting there.

Getting there & staying
The Sea Ranch
A stretch of protected coastline about 100 miles north of San Francisco. Whichever way you come, the last hour of the drive runs along the coast on Highway 1, and it's worth leaving time to pull over.

Flying in
Fly into San Francisco (SFO). Oakland (OAK) works just as well, and Santa Rosa (STS) is the closest small airport, about 90 minutes from the Lodge, with limited routes. We'd love for you to make a trip of it and spend a few days in San Francisco before or after the wedding.
Staying in San Francisco
Most of the city's hotels are downtown, around Union Square, the Embarcadero, and Nob Hill. We live in the Haight-Ashbury, next to Golden Gate Park; it's more of an Airbnb neighborhood, and a lovely one if you'd rather be near us.
The drive to The Sea Ranch
You'll want a car for the coast, so rent one in the city if you've flown in. The quickest way is 101 north to Santa Rosa, then west through Guerneville and the redwoods on River Road and Highway 116 to Jenner, and Highway 1 north along the coast from there. Count on about two and a half hours from San Francisco. If you have the time, take Highway 1 the whole way instead, over the Golden Gate and up through Stinson Beach, Point Reyes, and Bodega Bay. It adds about 45 minutes and we think it's worth it. Either way, leave in daylight if you can. Cell service fades north of Jenner, so download your maps before you go.
Staying at The Sea Ranch
The Lodge has 17 rooms, and we've reserved all of them for the weekend. That's fewer rooms than guests, so we'll reach out directly to everyone staying at the Lodge. Everyone else: The Sea Ranch is full of wonderful rental homes on the bluffs (Airbnb, VRBO, and local agencies), plus inns in Gualala just up the road. Book early; November weekends go quick.
What to pack
November on the coast is golden afternoons with cool, foggy edges. Bring a warm layer for the evening by the ocean, shoes that can handle a meadow, and something comfortable for a walk on Sunday.
Sunday Mass
The nearest Catholic church is Mary, Star of the Sea Mission in Gualala, at 39141 Church St, ten minutes north of the Lodge. Sunday Mass in English is at 11:00 am, with the Rosary at 10:35. It's marked on the map above.

Fifteen years in the making
2012
It started with a reply
We followed each other on Twitter in 2012. Jamil was in Toronto, Cameron was in Montgomery, Texas. We talked about tech and Apple at first, then about everything else, and the conversation never really stopped.
2015
Hello, in person
Three years after that first reply, Cameron flew out on a trip and we finally met in person in San Francisco. It felt like we'd known each other for years, because we had. The next time he flew out, he moved into Jamil's apartment in San Jose. That first stretch had light‑rail rides around the city, not much sleep, and Cameron's first In‑N‑Out.
1,280 miles between us
Intermission
Two cities, same conversation
For a few years, life took us back home: Jamil to Toronto, Cameron to Montgomery, Texas. The friendship carried on over texts and calls, one time zone and about 1,280 miles apart.
2017
The city called us both back
In 2017 we both moved to San Francisco within a few months of each other, without planning it. That summer we hiked Mt. Tam and sat above the fog with the whole bay below us. From then on, we were each other's constant in the city.
2025
The same story, newly named
In 2025, after more than a decade of friendship, it became something more.
February 2026
Two questions, one answer
The day after Cameron's thirtieth birthday, on a small stone bridge in Gion, Kyoto, Jamil proposed with a watch instead of a ring: a Cartier Santos, set to that moment. Cameron said yes, then spent the following week planning. Seven days later, on Westminster Bridge under Big Ben, Cameron proposed back. The answer was yes, both times.

Fifteen years after that first reply, we're getting married on a bluff above the Pacific with everyone we love around us. We can't wait to see you there.
